Dear Child Care Provider,

Your interest in becoming a licensed child care provider is appreciated. Childcare is one of the fastest growing home businesses. The need for licensed caregivers, especially those caring for infants, is great. The requirements are reasonable and achievable. Many of the licensing requirements are health and safety measures you have probably already implemented if you have children of your own or have cared for other people's children.

As a licensed child care provide, you are eligible for many free benefits. These benefits include:

  • Free referrals to help fill your child care openings
  • Free educational training
  • Free newsletters to keep you updated on State and local early childhood information
  • Eligibility for the Federal Child and Adult Care Food program - a monetary reimbursement for the nutritious meals you serve
  • Ability to advertise as a licensed caregiver
  • Access to additional resources
  • Recognition that you have met State Health and Safety Standards

The first step in the licensing process is to attend our free two hour Start Up Workshop (Orientation I) that covers: basic health & safety information, professional business practices, minimum standards compliance information, providing legal care, benefits to licensure, and laws governing providers of child care (i.e. ADA & Child Abuse reporting). If you choose to pursue licensure, you will be given information on the Preparation for Licensing Training (Orientation II) which is offered regionally across Indiana. You must attend the Start-Up Workshop prior to attending Preparation for Licensure.

Enclosed you will find additional helpful information and a Start Up/Orientation I training schedule. Even if you decide licensing is not for you at this time, you will gain valuable and usable information by attending this Start Up Workshop. Please call our office with any questions that you may have

Thank you for your interest,

Heather Anderson, Resource and Referral Coordinator
